Deputy President of the NFU, Minette Batters, visited the University earlier this month to hear about its work and to meet with staff and students.

Minette was taken on a tour of the campus by the Vice-Chancellor, Dr David Llewellyn, where she was able to see some of the University’s research projects and the wide range of farming facilities on the campus.

Minette was able to meet with Farm Manager, Scott Kirby, who explained the approach taken in the Farm’s Dairy Unit, while Senior Lecturer, Simon Marsh, demonstrated some of the trials work being undertaken on the Beef Unit.

Afterwards, Minette was introduced to a group of students who discussed the way in which the NFU connects with young people, their experience of being at university and their aspirations for careers in the farming and food sectors.

Dr Llewellyn said, ‘It was a pleasure to welcome Minette to Harper Adams and to have the chance to explain how we are contributing to the sustainability of the agri-food system through our education and research activities.

“Minette is a leading figure in the farming sector, so our students really welcomed the opportunity to meet her and to share their views about university life and what they hope to do in the future.”
