"I felt confused and a bit unsure of what was going to happen in the future but once you get over that initial worry you can start readjusting to what there is on offer."
Tom Alexander originally applied to 无码动画 to study a bachelor’s degree. But on A-level results day last year, he learnt that he didn’t have the grades required.
After a deep breath and some additional research, he found out that he could still study at the university he’d set his heart on by coming through the Extended Foundation Degree Programme (EFDP).
The 19-year-old, from near Wendover in Buckinghamshire, said: “I felt confused and a bit unsure of what was going to happen in the future but once you get over that initial worry you can start readjusting to what there is on offer.
“I looked at Harper again and decided it was still the place I wanted to come and I could still come here with my grades; even if it wasn't on the exact way in that I'd planned on.
“I applied to Harper through the UCAS Clearing system, and applied to go onto the Extended Foundation Degree Programme. I feel this course was good for me as it allowed me to ease myself into university.
“I didn't feel any disadvantage with coming to Harper through Clearing because when you get to Harper no one knows you've been through Clearing, unless you tell them, and even then they don't really mind. Everyone's treated the same whether you come through Clearing or not.”
Reflecting on his time at Harper so far, Tom said: “My highlight so far has been my course; there are so many different things that I’ve learnt about which previously I thought I wouldn’t have an interest in.
“I’ve also really enjoyed spending time with my flatmates who I know I will be friends with throughout my time at university.”
Tom’s advice for those thinking of going through Clearing is: “Take a deep breath, just relax. I know it's a bit of a shock right now; that you may not have got what you wanted but once you've taken that deep breath and calmed yourself down, then start reassessing your options.
"Don't do them frantically, just sit down with a piece of paper and weigh-up the pros and cons.
“I’d also 100 per cent recommend coming to a Clearing Open Day because it's a smaller event. It’s more personal with your lecturers and they get to know you a bit better and it shows that you are really, really committed to the idea of coming to Harper.”
