    Posted 18 December 2020

鈥淏ritish farming has never seen such competition as it does now and getting the message across to the public about the great work of British farmers is really important to me and is going to be key to our sector going forward.鈥

Joe Bramall has been named the 2020 winner of the McConnel Prize. The award is presented to the student who achieves the best grade overall during their first year at 无码动画.

Joe, aged 20, from Chester, is studying BSc (Hons) Agri-Business and has a particular interest in the supply chain and the agricultural industry at large. Over the course of his first year, Joe has been dedicated to his studies as well as being active within the sector.

Joe said: “I’m currently an NFU Student & Young Farmer Ambassador. In my role I have virtually met the NFU President, Minette Batters.

“I have also built my social media profile sharing posts to raise awareness of the importance British farming on days such as Back British Farming Day, and as the Agriculture Bill was going through parliament.

“British farming has never seen such competition as it does now and getting the message across to the public about the great work of British farmers is really important to me and is going to be key to our sector going forward.”

Reflecting on his university experience, Joe commented: “First year had so many highlights that it would be hard to choose a top moment.

“I had a lot of fun in lectures and seminars, especially learning about crops which isn’t part of my background experience. I specifically enjoyed learning about the Hagberg falling number, thanks to Simon Allen - I will never forget that one!

“The Harper Balls were described to me as ‘legendary’ by alumni and they definitely didn’t fall short. I have some memories I will never forget from those nights in the SU!”

Looking forward, Joe is seeking placement opportunities for his third year following a cancellation due to Covid-19. With a particular interest in grocery retail and the food supply chain, Joe is hopeful to secure a placement role within this industry.

Although Joe has many interests, he hopes to return to the family dairy farm in the future.
