Harper Adams students have taken two of the top three placings in the national Farmers Club Pinnacle Awards 2023.

Harper Adams students Tim Cotterill and Anna Frick, who are both in the final year of their BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Farm Business Management degrees, took silver and bronze prizes at the awards this week.

The awards – which mark their quarter century this year – assess students’ excellence in business management, with a shortlist drawn up from universities across the UK.

Both Anna and Tim’s entries had been based on their work for a module on farm diversification which forms part of their degree and which had been put forward by Senior Lecturer Tony Asson.

The pair, accompanied by Tony, were invited to present on their plans to a panel at the Farmers Club in Central London, before being questioned by a panel of industry experts from the Club, ADAS, and The Cave Foundation.

As Silver Prize winner, Tim receives £1000 and as Bronze winner, Anna will receive £600.

Tim said: “I am delighted to have received silver in this year's Pinnacle Awards. I'd like to express my gratitude to Tony Asson for nominating me for the Awards and for all his guidance throughout the process. A special thanks also to my family and friends for their encouragement and support!
“It's an honour to have represented Harper at a national competition and I'm forever grateful for this opportunity.

“Many congratulations to the seven other finalists, I wish them all every success. Thank you."

And Anna added: “The award day was an incredible experience that I will remember as a highlight from my time at Harper!

“I invested a lot of time and hard work to create my project but I never expected to be picked as one of the top three. Listening to the other seven students present their innovative ideas, was a fantastic experience.

“I’d like to thank Tony for initially selecting my report, for believing in me throughout the process and for coming along to support Tim and I at the awards.

“Thank you to everyone involved at the Farmers Club and ADAS for hosting such a memorable day.”

The pair’s success has also been welcomed by Tony, who said: “Tim and Anna were extremely professional in their presentations at the awards – I was delighted with both, and they should be proud of a great Harper performance.”
