This project will conduct a scoping review and analysis to better understand what business management tools and techniques work in farming to encourage farmers and growers to adopted a more business focused mind-set for long-term adaptability and profitability.
This scoping review will gather primary research studies and evidence syntheses relevant to, what tools, techniques and resources work in farming to encourage a greater degree of farm business management across three areas:
People – to develop a growth and business mindset where staff availability, skills or management competence are not factors hindering productivity
Performance – to use data to understand current business performance so that they can confidently make better informed decisions
Planning – to adopt a viable strategy that allows them to meet their personal and business goals
The evidence captured will be used to rank tools/techniques for potential suitability against 4 producer types with different attitudes, drivers and approaches to business, and group key variables into factors (eg economic, social, psychological and structural) influencing business performance. The review will also suggest strategies for support of decision-making and for potential future development of tools/resources.
