Study here and let your curiosity of the natural world lead you to dynamic career opportunities. Learn about sustainable management practices and the underpinning theories.
Our environment provides us with vital resources that underpin our economic prosperity and our health and wellbeing. Our courses focus on the management of the environment, wildlife conservation and the sustainable management of land for production of food, timber and clean water, alongside strategies to mitigate threats arising from climate change.
The world needs experts who can solve environmental challenges, and our graduates go on to do exactly that. You could become a wildlife conservationist, protecting endangered species and restoring ecosystems, or an environmental consultant, advising businesses and governments on sustainability. Careers in ecology, climate policy, land management, and renewable energy are also within reach. Whether you're working on rewilding projects, tackling pollution, or shaping environmental policies, you'll graduate with the skills to make a real impact.
A lot! We believe the best way to understand the environment is to be out in it. You'll conduct fieldwork in forests, wetlands, and agricultural landscapes, tracking wildlife, assessing ecosystems, and working on conservation projects.
Our 494-hectare farm acts as a living lab, where you can see sustainable land management in action. Expect plenty of hands-on experience - this isn’t just a classroom-based degree
From habitat surveying and species identification to GIS mapping and environmental impact assessments, you’ll gain the technical skills that employers look for. You'll also develop problem-solving, data analysis, and policy-making expertise—essential for shaping the future of conservation and sustainability.
Every module is designed with action in mind. You’ll explore sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, from reducing carbon footprints to restoring vital ecosystems. You'll learn how to protect biodiversity, mitigate the effects of climate change, and create policies that drive real change.
By the time you graduate, you won’t just understand the problems - we’ll equip you with the skills to be part of the solution. You can explore each one of our modules by looking at our individual course pages.

Do you want an exciting and rewarding career working alongside other professionals in the fields of engineering, hydrology, planning, ecology and agriculture to ensure that changes in land management and land use have minimal environmental impacts - and ideally lead to a net gain - whilst contributing to the UK’s economic prosperity? If you'd love to work both independently and with a team and would enjoy a busy and varied role where you're sometimes outdoors as often as in the office, we have a course for you.
Our courses are accredited by professional bodies and reflect the growing need from industry to respond to government initiatives such as the Agriculture Bill, the 25-year Environment Plan and our international commitments to tackle climate change. Environmental surveyors and wildlife biologists with specialist knowledge and an understanding of the big picture will be in demand.
At Harper Adams you won’t just learn in the classroom - the university estate, including a commercial farm, is a great way to see land management in action, not to mention visits to local farms, estates, factories and interesting properties, and guest lecturers from industry.
