Vice-Chancellor discusses Higher Education transformation at THE Campus Live event

    29 November 2024

The Government needs to offer incentives to the Higher Education sector to encourage transformation, ÎÞÂ붯»’s Vice Chancellor has said.

As reported in Times Higher Education, Professor Ken Sloan was among the panellists speaking at the publication’s THE Campus Live event in Birmingham.

He suggested some of the barriers Higher Education leaders talk about when it comes to their organisations sharing services – such as VAT – were hindering a true discussion of the possibilities.

He added: “If there are better organisations that can help you to deliver a more cost-effective and better-quality thing, clearly we should be thinking much more seriously about it.”

Professor Sloan also called for greater collaboration between institutions and said: “Looking at disciplinary coverage across the country, we should be looking at how we support each other.

“I know students at my institution would love to access other modules at other institutions as part of that.”

However, if the Government wanted this to happen, he stressed it should offer the sector incentives.

He added: “There’s a recognition in the NHS that it is going to take some funding to deliver transformation. There needs to be the same recognition if you want to deliver a tertiary education system at the end of it.”
