Before us, there were animals. Their conservation, protection and welfare are essential for the health of our planet – without them plants would wither and die, habitats would vanish and life as we know it would be unrecognisable. Our courses are all about investigating animal life and pushing forward our understanding to safeguard their future—and ours. From veterinary professionals and the animal sciences to zoology and conservation, you’ll develop the skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact on animal welfare and biodiversity.
Our animal-focused programmes blend hands-on learning with cutting-edge research and industry insights. You’ll work with experts passionate about animal welfare and biodiversity, deepening your understanding of how different species connect with the world around them, each other, and human life. With hands-on access to facilities like our hydrotherapy suite, a 494-hectare farm, and the Companion Animal House, you’ll develop the practical knowledge to lead in animal science and conservation.
Many of our degrees are accredited or recognised by industry bodies, including the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour and the Animal Health Professions’ Register.
With small class sizes, many of our animal courses offer a more personal, hands-on learning experience. You’ll work closely with our expert lecturers, gaining tailored guidance and the practical skills to make a real difference in animal care, zoology and conservation.
Our Veterinary Education Centre, as well as dedicated labs and Companion Animal House, provide an incredible space to support and interact with animals directly while you’re learning. You can also make use of our living labs, hydrotherapy suite, on-campus farm and independent study spaces.
Many of our undergraduate animal courses offer flexible pathways, so you can pursue what truly inspires you. From farmed, small, zoo, or equine animals in our BSc (Hons) Applied Animal Science to entomology and environmental management in our Zoology degrees - you’ll have the chance to focus on what you love.
